Myths About Foundation Repair: Part 2

Our last blog discussed some common misconceptions people have about foundation repair. This week, we’ll finish up our list and hopefully give you the peace of mind you need when it comes to repairing the structure of your home. Let’s continue, shall we?

Myth #5: All repairs require excavation or “it’ll ruin my lawn.”

While many major foundation repairs require some digging, not all fixes involve excavation. Many repairs (poly injection, crack repairs, some push pier installations, etc.) can be done from inside the home, all year round.

Epp Foundation Repair has a reputation for being one of the cleanest, most careful contractors in the local market. Our crews are meticulously tidy and, for those jobs that do require excavation, will do everything they can to make your yard look as good as it did pre-construction.

Myth #6: Repairs scare off potential homebuyers

When it comes time to sell your home, you’re legally obligated to make potential buyers aware of any repairs that have been made. Revealing that you’ve had foundation work done may initially scare away a few inexperienced buyers, but most know that this only means they won’t have to pay for repairs in the future.

Keep documentation that proves you had the work done by a reputable contractor, and have a foundation engineer sign a report when you have repairs made. Lookers are more apt to become buyers with this reassurance.

Myth #7: You can repair some foundation issues yourself

Unless you have experience with foundation repair, don’t attempt to do anything yourself. Think about your home’s structure in the way that your skeleton is the foundation of your body. Would you fix a broken bone yourself? Unless you’re a practicing orthopedic doctor, we sure hope not.

Myth #8: Replacing your foundation is a more sound option than repairing it

Many people think that having your foundation repaired is just a temporary fix and that the only way to repair it permanently is to replace it (which is where the idea that foundation repairs are so expensive comes from).

The truth is that repairs can be done in a manner that is more timely, more cost-efficient, and just as permanent as replacing a foundation. Repairs are made with high-quality, specially engineered products to keep your foundation as strong as new.
